President’s Message            

As we approach Thanksgiving Day, we should take time to count our blessings.  Many of us may have the opportunity to spend time with family or friends enjoying a good meal.  We may serve our community by feeding those who are less fortunate or take time for a run or walk to feed the hungry.  I know our club members appreciate their good fortune and are generous to our Elk Grove Community.
 
This month we will restart our Thankfulness Basket project under the skilled hands of Nancy Lucia.  If you have not had the opportunity to deliver a basket to a needy family, I encourage you to do so this year.  It is heartwarming to experience the joy of those receiving these bountiful baskets.  Nancy needs 20 drivers to deliver Thankfulness baskets between November 19 and November 24.   She will have a sign-up sheet at the November 4 Club Lunch Meeting.   You can also email her at nlucia4@comcast.net to volunteer.
 
We also honor our veterans this month.  As is our tradition, we will participate in the Veteran’s Day Parade, under the direction of Don Guy.  I come from a military family having been raised by a Lieutenant Colonel who retired from the United States Air Force after a long career.  My father fought in World War II.  He served around the world.  I am proud of his service and commitment to this country.  Let’s make sure we honor our veterans this year by joining Don at the parade.
 
I leave you with a quote from Rumi to consider in this month of gratitude:
 
“Wear gratitude like a cloak, and it will feed every corner of your life.”
 
I am grateful for my membership in the Elk Grove Rotary Club and thankful for the community my fellow Rotarians provide.
